Since the dawn of time, women have held the torch for their communities to lead the way out of hardships, wars and major challenges. Inanna, the ancient Sumerian goddess of love, sensuality, fertility and war was one of the earliest feminine figures. A mighty, enduring goddess, with divine powers, who led her city Uruk out of the darkness and into the light.
The mighty kings of Mesopotamia called upon Inanna to protect them in battles. A fierce and powerful, yet benevolent and tender-hearted goddess of great beauty and sensuality who brought gifts of knowledge, culture and wisdom to her city. Her sanctuary was Eanna – House of Heaven, and she was described by the first woman poet and high priestess of Akkad, Enheduanna as the “Great hearted Mistress and the Goddess of the fearsome powers”.
Today as the world faces our biggest challenges, Inanna and her ancestors of warriors and goddesses are rising to meet the modern day warrior women, to hand them the torch to yet again lead our humanity out of the wilderness and into the light. A new era of love, compassion and unity. Women who possess courage of heart and tenacity of will are called to rise today with Inanna and her ancestors to pave the way for our New Earth.
